Soccer conditioning is certainly the topmost way to build and sustain player’s fitness as far as my opinion is concerned. Soccer fitness, to someone who is not conversant with the term, would mean a fitness plan devised to perk up the physical conditions of players.
Every serious coach should include group as well as individual training program to give a boost to the performance of the players. There are 5 factors which must be considered upon which conditioning is based; like endurance, strength, speed, and agility. These factors make the details of every exercise regime. Let’s quickly take a look at these.
Warm up: It has 3 phases that affect conditioning. Firstly, it prepares the body for the subsequent demanding sessions. Secondly, it helps them avoid strains and muscle pulls. Last but not least, it improves the player’s flexibility that holds great importance in the game of soccer.
Strength: It is an undisputed fact that only those players who have a great body and scores of energy win matches for the team. In soccer conditioning, include considerable weight training to aid the players in building muscles and endurance which leads to developing tough players. When players are strong, it significantly affects the speed, balance, shielding, headers, balance and shooting abilities.
Endurance: It is the ability of the players to hold up an entire match. If they do not possess adequate energy, they will get tired and that will be disastrous for your team. What is great about it is that you do not have to plan soccer exercises for it specifically. All aerobic activities such as sprints, forward runs, long passes and so on help build endurance. Just ensure that players focus on these and do a lot of running and sprinting.
Agility: This goes a long way in helping the players attack as well as defend. If the players are agile, it can make the difference between a successful dribbling and a turnover. It also helps in a decisive successful tackle and a penalty kick against the opposing team. Though, as a supplement to dribbling and tackling, working on your quickness also helps with finishing, receiving, shielding and jumping.
Speed: It is crucial in soccer but not everything. As is said in soccer, it is the ball and not the players who should do the maximum running. However, keep in mind that players who are both quick and fast runners ultimately become the favorites to win matches. So it makes sense to include drills and exercises in soccer workouts that help the players develop their speed.
